The form of an object orspace should reflect itsintended use and fulfill itsintended function.

TYPES OF DESIGN

Structural Design

The design is an integral part of the structureitself.

The structure and design cannot be separated.

The simplest design.

DECORATIVE DESIGN

Involves the application of color, line, texture, orpattern to an object.

Ornamentation added to enhance the basic structuraldesign.

FOR DECORATIVE DESIGN TO BESUCCESSFUL IT MUST:

Be suitable for the intendedfunction

Appropriate for thematerials that are beingused

Appropriate in size andamount to the object inwhich it is found

Used to emphasize thestructure.
