Future of Numbering WG
Mission
•To explore changes to the environment, including new and futuretechnologies, the impact of market place and/or regulatory changesand innovations on telephone numbering.
Scope:
•The Working Group will investigate new telephone numberingassignment approaches and future telephone number assignmentrequirements. The Working Group will identify common criteria andgather data to identify trends and their impact upon numberingresources. The Working Group, if necessary, will analyzeopportunities to determine the feasibility and benefit of each andreport its findings to the NANC. The Working Group will also analyzevarious topics that may be given to it from time to time by the NANCand/or FCC.

•A Contribution from AT&T for Numbering Testbed Parameters
–The FoN agreed to hold this contribution until more information regarding the testbed ismade available.
•SubCommittee Updates
–FTN 4: Geographic Issues
•The Geographic Numbering sub-committee is discussing the consumer perspective andservice implications regarding the geography of telephone numbers and the decoupling ordisassociation of numbers from geography. The sub-committee is creating a white paperto be shared with the FoN WG upon completion focusing on the implications for toll-freeservice.
–FTN 8: All IP Addressing
•All IP Addressing sub-committee was created to define future identifiers in support of IPindustry trends beyond the e.164 numbering plan (including M2M impacts).
