My Experience
I have been on internship with McKesson for foursummers has given me the opportunity to work on avariety of projects. I have also been fortunate in the sensethat I have worked with many different people. Since Ihave worked in the Field Technical Support group of the ITdepartment each summer, they have a huge comfort levelwith my technical as well as customer service capabilities.This fact has allowed me to be considered a normalemployee in the sense that I do everything that aneveryday field technician does, which can range fromtechnical support to operating system migrations. I havealso had the opportunity to explore the vast environmentthat is known as “Information Technology”.
Projects I Have WorkedOn
Aside from the everyday activities of customer support, I have beeninvolved in many projects that have a direct impact on McKessonCorporation. Some of them are listed below:
•- Designed, implemented, and maintained an iventorieddatabase of all the hardware assets in the corporate office.
•- Assisted in the migration from a Microsoft NT environment toMicrosoft XP.
•- Converted a pharmaceutical call center to Voice over IP.
•- As lead intern of the FTS department I supervised the otherinterns in the department.
Lessons I HaveLearned
•From my experience as an intern at McKesson I have been able tolearn many valuable things about IT and the corporate world. Themost important lesson that I have learned is to take initiative. Bymaking myself available for projects, and letting people know that Iwas eager to learn new things I feel like I have had the opportunityto do more than I would have otherwise.
•I also learned that just completing a task is not enough when itcomes to advancing in the corporate world. It is just as important tofinish the job as quickly and efficiently as possible, while makingsure that each objective is being completed the way it is supposedto.
•My greatest challenge as an intern was earning the respect of mydepartment as well as anyone else that I worked with. I believe thatwas I not able to learn quickly and adapt to many different situationsI would not have been given the chance to return to McKesson. Thecomputer skills that I have set me apart from many other interns andemployees.
