What You Need For theWashington/Gettysburg Trip

May 10-13, 2016

What to Wear:

•Students should bring two bags, one for onthe bus, and one for the hotel that will bestored under the bus.

•Students should bring comfortable, schoolappropriate clothes. Check the weatherbefore we leave.

•Good walking shoes.

•A light jacket or sweatshirt.

•3 changes of clothes and pajamas (no dressclothes required).

•Necessary toiletries

Money:

•We suggest $35-$40 for souvenirs, extrabeverages, snacks etc.

•Discuss this with parents and use goodjudgment.

Food:

•Bring a lunch for the bus trip to Washington D.C.

•There will be no option to buy a lunch.

•All meals, except the first lunch, are included.

•You may bring pop for the hotel. Store it in yourluggage underneath the bus.

•NO “Red Bull” or any other energy drinks.

•DO not include pop or milk products on the bus.

•Bring snacks for the bus and the hotel.

•Be reasonable about snacks. Too much of agood thing is not a good thing.

Bus:

•Each student shall have an assigned seat on the bus.That student is responsible for that seat.

•Students will stay in their seats on the bus and actappropriately.

•They are to follow the rules of the bus company and nogesturing is permitted to outside vehicles.

•Ipods, PSPs, may be used during the trip. They must besilent. These may not be used while touring the city ofWashington D.C.

•The bathrooms are for emergencies only. They will notbe used as we stop every 2 hours for bathroom breaks.

Hotel:

•Students will remain in their hotel rooms at all timesafter we arrive.

•One room captain will be chosen per room. He/shewill leave to get pop and ice.

•Students may not go into any other room.

•Students will only leave their rooms for breakfastand when we depart for the day.

•Chaperones will inform students about breakfast anddeparture times.

•Whatever you bring, it is your responsibility to take itto and from the bus and in and out of the hotel.

•If you forget something in the hotel when we leave,we are not going back.

Behavior:

•You are a representative of KenstonMiddle School.

•Use common sense, be respectful andfollow school rules.

•If you violate any rules or do somethingthat could endanger yourself or others,you may be sent home.

•All school rules apply.

At Events & Attractions:

•Follow directions and be on time. Bring awatch!!!

•Always stay with a partner or group (never goanywhere alone).

•If you get separated from the group for somereason, call someone from your group to informa chaperone. Also, you may notify a securityperson or employee.

•Be respectful and courteous to all people youencounter.

Reminder:

•Disposal cameras or inexpensive digitals are the best.

•NO portable DVDs, laptops or console games.

•PG13, PG or G movies for the bus.

•Cell phones are fine but need to be out of sight duringthe trip and activities. Only in case of separation /Emergency.

•Make sure you have one bag for under the bus and onebag to carry on.

•Have everything you need for the day in the carry on.

•We will not get to the hotel until late each night.

Departing at 7:30 am promptlyon Tuesday, May 10th:

•WE are departing from KIS!!

•Arrive by 7:00 A.M.

•Have parents drop you off. They shouldnot come in.

•Go to your assigned area (Gym orCafeteria).

•Give medicines to chaperones.

•Some things to have in your carry-on for the bus:

•Any needed medication

•Lunch for the first day

•Writing utensil for packet

•Snacks and beverages (no carbonated)

•Camera

•Jacket or sweatshirt

•Money

•Games or movies for the bus

Arriving home on Friday, May13th:

•We will arrive at Kenston Middle School

•Time may vary(6:00 P.M. is estimatedarrival time); have parents available anytime after 5:00 P.M.

•Students will use cell phones to call whenwe are 30 minutes away.

•Gather all your belongings. We are notresponsible for anything left behind or lost.

•4:30 Begin your guided tour of Washington with your teachers > Seethe memorials, monuments and buildings that have shaped the historyof our country

•7:05 Washington Nationals baseball game > *dinner voucher at game

•10:00 Return to hotel - Security on duty 10:00 - 6:30

Wednesday, May 11th

Breakfast Buffet included at the hotel 9:00 a.m.

Spend the day exploring Washington's Highlights (see list below)

The group will visit as many of the sites as possible, based on differentcircumstances Arlington National Cemetery 11:15 Wreath-layingceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Continue touring "The District" >Including the Supreme Court, WhiteHouse and other memorials
