•At the age of 19, Edwards began writing alist of resolutions that were designed tohelp him become a better person, but,more importantly to him, a better Christian.To help transform his life, he vowed toread over the resolutions once a week.The first 21 resolutions were written downin one setting in 1722. He added to listover the next year and ended up with 70.

Being sensible that I am unable to doany thing without God’s help, I dohumbly entreat him, by his grace, toenable me to keep these Resolutions,so far as they are agreeable to his will,for Christ’s sake.

Resolved, That I will do whatsoever I think to bemost to the glory of God, and my own good,profit, and pleasure, in the whole of my duration;without any consideration of the time, whethernow, or never so many myriads of ages hence.Resolved, to do whatever I think to be my duty,and most for the good and advantage ofmankind in general. Resolved, so to do,whatever difficulties I meet with, how manysoever, and how great soever.
