Access to Internet and computer resourcesshould be for educational purposes.
Transmission of copyrighted material,threatening, profane, or obscene materialis prohibited.
Do not upload or download commercialsoftware on school network computers.
Computer hardware or software shall notbe destroyed, modified, or abused in anyway.
ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
Network users are expected to followthe generally accepted rules ofnetwork etiquette or “netiquette”
Use the school network for educationalpurposes.
Be polite and use appropriate language.
Use information and equipment in aresponsible manner.
Do not reveal personal information or thoseof other students.
Hate mail, harassment, and discriminatoryremarks are prohibited.
NETWORK ETIQUETTE
You should never open an email from a stranger – it maycontain viruses that can harm a computer.
Do not send pictures to strangers or view pictures thatstrangers send to you.
Passwords should be kept private (except to parents).
People aren’t necessarily who they say they are incyberspace.
If you plan to meet someone, it should be in a publicplace, with a friend.
Don't post your location. Social networks allow you topost your location -- but it's just not safe.

There’s no such thing as“private” online.
Anything posted can be seen by orforwarded to strangers, collegeadmissions officers, and potentialemployers.
This means no embarrassing or cruelposts, no hate speech or groups, nocompromising pictures you wouldn’twant the whole world to see.
If you wouldn’t say something tosomeone’s face, you shouldn’t text it,IM it, or post it.
Use social networks’ privacy settingsso only your friends can see yourstuff.
Be a good digital citizen.
Online cheating is stillcheating.
Flagging inappropriate contentisn’t tattling – it’s keeping theWeb a place where peoplewant to hang out and wherethey can feel safe.
The Golden Rule applies incyberspace. “Do untoothers…” If you wouldn’t do itin real life, you shouldn’t do itonline.

Give and get credit. We’re all proudof what we create. Illegaldownloading, digital cheating, andcutting and pasting other people’sstuff may be easy, but that doesn’tmake it right.
You have the responsibility torespect other people’s creativework -- and the right to have yourown work respected.
Communicate kindly, stand up forothers, and build positive onlinerelationships rooted in respect.
CyberBullying
Online communication is oftenpurposely ambiguous or accidentallycruel -- both of which can lead tomisunderstandings. If drama startsbrewing, call or speak face to face withyour friend to clear it up.
Talk to a responsible adult -- your schoolcounselor, your school resource officer,even the parent of a friend.
Be an upstander -- not a bystander.There are ways that you can workbehind the scenes to reach out to thevictim, get an adult involved, andprevent more cruel behavior.
Do not to respond or retaliate. Notfeeding the bully can stop the cycle.And -- if anything does happen -- savethe evidence.
Use critical thinking.
Ask “who posted this? Why?”Thinking this way will help youfind trustworthy information,and it will also help you avoidonline scams that deliverspyware and viruses to yourcomputer.
Also think critically about yourown posts. Ask, “Why am Iposting this? Who will see it?Could it be misunderstood?
Password Security.
Your password should be at least8 characters long
Use both upper and lower casecharacters as well as numbersand symbols
Do not use names, dates, orfamiliar numbers
Do not use a pattern ofconsecutive numbers, letters, orkeys on your keyboard
Do not write them down or sharethem with anyone
The use of the Internet andcomputers at BYHS is aprivilege, not a right.
Misuse and/or violation ofestablished policies may resultin restriction, suspension, orcancellation of privileges.
PRIVILEGES
When you sign the student handbook,
you agree to comply with the CaswellCounty Schools’ Acceptable Use Policy.
Any user identified as a security risk, or possessing a history ofproblems with other computer systems, may be denied access to theInternet.
Network users have a duty to report to the principal or the systemadministrator any knowledge of safety or security problems on theInternet and other computer networks.
The Caswell County Public School District reserves the right to
temporarily or permanently remove a user account on the network.
