The Ocean Floor
Oceanographers discoveredthe shape of the ocean floorby measuring the depth ofthe floor in many places.
They used sonar and radar tohelp map the floor.

•Sonar is a system for detecting objectsunder water and for measuring the water'sdepth.
•Sound waves are sent out from thesurface, and they measure the soundwaves’ return after being reflected by whatis below.
