Step 1 - Isolate the Area

Offer assistance to the sickperson and move them toa private place.
Move the other peopleapproximately 25 feetaway from the spill area.
Rope off or isolate thearea.

Step 2 - Cover the Incident Residue
Quickly cover the site.
paper towels,
plastic sheets or garbagebags,
paper sacks,
anything that is non-porous.
Avoid any direct contactwith the actual spill.

Step 3 – Prepare for Cleanup
Mix or prepare thedisinfectant spray.
(VIRKON: mix 10grams or approximately2/3 tablespoon to 16ounces of water.)
Wash hands prior toputting on the personalprotection equipment.

Step 4 - Disinfect the Scene (1)
Spray disinfectant on thecovering material, open thered biohazard bag and theblack garbage bag.
Carefully remove the coveringmaterial by folding it in onitself so that the area whichhas had direct contact with thebody spill is now selfcontained.
Place the rolled up covermaterial in the red biohazardbag.
Step 4 - Disinfect the Scene (2)
Generously spray the area withthe disinfectant, concentrating onthe primary spill site.
Sprinkle on the absorbentcoagulating agent over the spill.
Wait the appropriate “kill” timeaccording to product label.
(VIRKON “kill” time is 10minutes.)

Step 4 - Disinfect the Scene (3)
Always keep peopleaway from the spill site.
While waiting for the“kill time” to pass, usepaper towels and thedisinfectant spray andwipe off any otheraffected surfaces.
Remember to clean“from clean to dirty.”
Step 5 - Clean Up the Spill
Scrape fromthe outside tothe middle.
Scoop thematerial intothe redbiohazard bag.

Step 6 - Disinfect Again
Once solidresidue isremoved spraythe entire spillsite area again.
Allow the areato air dry.
