•Mohamed Bouazizi soldvegetables as a streetvendor to make what littlemoney he could. His cartand vegetables were seizedby the police. Bouazizi, sethimself on fire inhopelessness and to protesthis treatment at the handsof the authorities. He died afew days later. Protestsbegin in his honor againstthe government of Tunisia.
•Protesters clash with policeand set fire to cars inseveral Tunisian cities. TheTunisian governmentresponds violently.
The call for change quickly spreads toother countries in Northern Africa andthe Middle East.
Some of the protests turned violent and in manycases the corrupt rulers violated human rightsby killing those who protested for change.

This “domino effect” of protest forchange becomes known as the ArabSpring.
Many corrupt leaders fall from power,forced out by their own people.

4.Explain “What happened” & “Where are they now.” Make sureyou explain the most vital parts of the information you read andkeep it concise…causes, effects, triggers, etc. Some information isexplaining actions taken by the government to prevent a rebellionin that country, make sure this is clearly explained.
5.A picture (annotation) to help students remember somethingspecific about your Arab Spring nation. If everyone draws a gun,this will explain nothing. What is special or specific about thisstory that is memorable?
