Dana and Thomas were sitting and thetable and eating their supper when a terriblestorm began. They saw a flash of lightning,after a while they heard a very loud clap ofthunder. Dana was afraid of storms, so shegot very scared, and began to cry. Theirmother said: “I will tell you the story of thetwo twin brothers who lived long, long agowhen the world was brand new…”
Both were always together runningthrough the plains and the mountains,but one day, two girls arrived to theirtown. One was always moving aroundand her skin was very soft, her namewas Wind; the other was always crying,she was named Rain.
The idea of the story made the two childrenfeel very happy, especially because they weretwins too.
“These two brothers were always fightingand arguing out who was the strongest, thefastest, or the most intelligent…”
In this moment, a flash of lightning filledthe kitchen with light, but Dana was tooconcentrated in the story to feel afraid.
-“People say that even in her womb theyfought about who will be born first. Sometime after the babies were born, they werenamed lightning and thunder. The first,Lightning because when he smiled, thevalley was filled with light, the second,Thunder, because when he cried his voicecould be heard from miles away.
Thunder and Lightning fell in lovewith Wind, but Wind didn’t like them,she wanted to be free and fly formone place to another. So she wentaway from the town, and began to flythrough the entire world.
When Lightning and Thunder saw thatshe was gone they began to chase her;every time Lightning was about to catchher he laughed, and the sky got filledwith light, running behind him, Thunderalso tried to catch Wind, but Lightningwas faster, this made Thunder veryangry so he shouted…
What happened with them? Thomasasked.
“Well, they are still running throughthe world”, Mamma answered.
What happened with Rain?, Danaasked.
“Next time you see a storm count how manyseconds there are between the flash oflightning and the clap of thunder and youwill know how far they are from each other,maybe one night thunder reaches lightning.”Mamma said.
“I don’t think so”, said Thomas, “Dana wasborn first, and she always beats me in theraces.”
When the story was over, the stormwas over too. Dana and Thomas weredisappointed because Lightning andThunder had gone to chase Windsomewhere far away. They will have towait until the next storm.
