•Prievidza is a city in the central-westernSlovakia. With 48,000 inhabitants it is oneof the biggest municipalities in theTrenčín Region.

•Prievidza lies at an altitude of 280 metresabove sea level and covers an area of43.06 square kilometres.

•Prievidza is 11th largest city in Slovakia.

•District Prievidza is the largest district ofTrenčín Region, has 113 662 inhabitantsand the 5th most populated district inSlovakia

•The city lies, is surrounded by mountainranges on all sides, in the west StrážovMountains, in the north Malá Fatra, in theeast Žiar and in the south Vtáčnik.

HISTORY OF PRIEVIDZA

•The beginnings of a rich history ofthe original settlement of prividiawere written by hunters´communitysettled on the Mariánsky vŕšok.

•The city was first mentioned in 1113as Preuigan. It was promoted to aroyal free town in 1383.

•Since the end of the 19th centuryand the beginning of the 20thcentury, industry started to grow, asthe railways to Prievidza wereconstructed.

•Since the end of the war, thepopulation has grown enormouslyfrom 5,000 inhabitants to around53,000 inhabitants, as industry grew.

•Prievidza became the home of manyminers and workers that foundemployment in the coal mines, thepower station and the chemicalfactory in the nearby town ofNováky.
