In the later 1960s and early 1970s CCR released itsfirst rock album. There was a build on complexprogressive rock. Creedence Clearwater Revival did noparticipate in these mainstreams. They cut a series ofclassic three-minute songs featuring singer-songwriterJohn Fogerty's rough and riveting vocals. As the mostsuccessful and exciting band in the US during that time,their rock was straightforward and John Fogerty hassince gone on to a chart-topping solo career. Born inBerkeley, CA, Fogerty and his brother Tom organized theband. The multi talented Fogerty began his musical pathwhile still in middle school in El Cerrito, California. Hejoined with fellow students Stu Cook and Doug Cliffordto form a group called the Blue Velvets. They later addedFogerty's older brother Tom, and performed in the SanFrancisco Bay location. The young men also made a fewrecordings on small local labels such as Kristy andOrchestra, but these efforts did not sell. In 1964, theBlue Velvets landed a contract with Fantasy Records innearby Berkeley. A year later the group had changed itsname to the Golliwogs, but they were still unable to crafta good selling record. Fantasy lost interest in them, andthe band recorded a few tracks for the local Scorpiorecord label. Eventually, famous label chief Saul Zaentzencouraged the Golliwogs to re-sign, but to find a bettername. Then, in 1968 they were re-named CreedenceClearwater Revival.

Hegoes on to say “Lord, Don’tthey Help Themselves.” Hessaying hes angry becausethe lower class people arebeing drafted and not evenlythe richer people as well.
This is a term referring to the patriotic people duringthat time. The government would “send them down towar”. John is almost repeating himself contrasted to“Born To Wave The Flag” He wants people to knowthat he is not a person with the desire to be in the war.
