The self regulation of ethics relies on ways todeter unethical behavior of the members.
The AMC’s first code was enacted in 1972 andthe latest code, the Code of Ethics andProfessional Conduct, was adopted in 1992.
AMC relies on the commitment of its memberswhich are expressed through rules andsometimes ideals.
Recent codes emphasize socialization oreducation rather than forced compliance.
The code of ethics influences the 9 classes thatdescribe ethical decision making.
A woman uses code segments from anothercoder without giving him his due.
The Code states to give proper credit tointellectual properties.
The coder is in the wrong as she basically stolethe work of a fellow coworker.
In this case, she should give credit to him in herpublished work. Also, she should have checkedwith her company to see if the using of the codesegments was even allowed.
Bootlegged software is a violation of the code.
A woman’s firm is designing a database and isfaced with a choice: whether or not to follow thepeople buying the system's wishes and use lesssecurity to protect the personal information ofothers.
The code states that the woman is obligated todo her best to protect the info, while it is also theowners’ jobs to not skimp on protecting vitalinformation.
The exact contents of the contract are inquestion, but the woman may have to choosebetween her contract and her obligation to honorprivacy and confidentiality.
A man is creating a report on sensitiveinformation that includes some peoples namesand such. To finish the project he copies therecords and brings them home to finish thereport. He then forgets about the files and leavesthem at home.
Two problems with the code arise. First, the manshould never be negligent of other peoplesinformation. It could be used to harm innocentclients. Second, the company should not havehad anyone's indentifying information on theirfiles. That information was not necessary.Without the attached names the man would haveno problems.
