July 23, 2004 - TianmaMicroelectronics, mainland China’slargest LCD manufacturer, held anopen meeting for introduction of“SFD-series” (super-fast display) colorSTN modules, Tianma’s proprietarytechnology. According to the company’spresident Ruiling Lui, such LCDmodules are now available in three sizes– 1.5-inch, 1.85-inch and 5.7-inch.
Volume production for SFD‘s willbegin sometime this quarter, said Mr.Liu, adding that the CSTN displaysegment should achieve 50% of thecompany’s total revenues this year.

During the press conference, Tianma’s Chairman,Mr. Wu Guangquan, and Tianma’s General Manager,Mr. Liu Ruilin, both expressed their belief that theSFD Modules would bring their customers newcompetitive advantages and replace current TFTLCD offerings.

Bydoing so, these modules will transform the TFT LCDmarket and the greater LCD industry.”
July 23, 2004, Shenzhen, China - Shenzhen Tianma Microelectronics Co., Ltd. announcedthe launch of its Super Fast Display (SFD) Flying Dragon Series of Color Display Modulestoday at a press conference in the Wuzhou Guest House in Shenzhen. The SFD modulesboast the fastest moving displays of any CSTN modules in the world and can be used inmany different multimedia products, including mobile phones, media players, automotivedisplays, digital home appliances and security apparatus. They share practically the samedisplay quality as TFT modules, but with lower production costs, shorter lead times andless power consumption.

The SFD Flying Dragon Series of Color DisplayModules allow CSTN LCD screens to display clear, fastmoving images up to 30ftps/frame, flying in the face ofconventional wisdom that holds that CSTN LCDscreens will always have afterimages. SFD modules alsoenjoy high data-reaction rates with high contrasts andlow image flicker. These capabilities are particularlyvaluable for electronics like mobile phones, which fulfillan increasing array of functions that require fast, colorscreens. Today, mobile phones often double as digitalcameras, digital video recorders and video gameconsoles.
Tianma’s SFD modules, beyond having lowerproduction costs and power consumption than TFTLCD modules, can also be produced in a shorteramount of time, allowing Tianma to meet the needs ofits customers better in a fast-changing market. Tianmais one of China’s top display module suppliers formobile phones, producing 200,000 square meters ofLCD and 50 million LCMs annually.
